What this page covers

Pivotal Motion Education publishes educational content for health professionals, students and interested readers. Many of our readers are registered practitioners with annual continuing professional development (CPD) obligations. This page explains, plainly, what our content is in CPD terms and what it is not.

It is worth two minutes before you record any time spent on this site against a CPD requirement.

Our content is self directed professional development

Everything we currently publish, including our articles, guides and resources, is self directed professional development. It is material you choose to read, at your own pace, without assessment, supervision or formal completion requirements.

Most Australian health profession CPD frameworks recognise self directed learning, such as reading, private study and reviewing literature, as a legitimate CPD activity. Whether the time you spend here counts toward your own requirement, and how much of it counts, is determined by your regulator or professional association, not by us.

We are not an accredited CPD provider

We want to be direct about this. Pivotal Motion Education is not an accredited or endorsed CPD provider.

  • We are not accredited, endorsed, approved, recognised or certified by any registration board, professional association, university or accrediting body.
  • We make no representation that our content satisfies the CPD requirements of any board, association, employer or regulator, in Australia or anywhere else.
  • We do not award CPD hours, CPD points, credits or certificates.
  • We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or partnered with any professional association or registration board. Where we name one, we do so only to point you to the right place to check something.

Any reference on this site to professional development, learning or education means exactly that. It does not mean accredited CPD.

Verification is your responsibility

You are responsible for deciding whether any activity you undertake here counts toward your requirement, for how you categorise it, and for recording it correctly.

Before you log time spent on this site as CPD:

  • Check your registration board’s current CPD registration standard, which sets the hours, the categories and the record keeping period that apply to you.
  • Check any additional requirements from your professional association, your employer, or your credentialing body, which are often stricter than the board minimum.
  • Check whether your framework treats self directed reading differently from formal, assessed or accredited activity, including any cap on the proportion of self directed hours you may claim.
  • Keep your own records. Most frameworks require a portfolio, and require you to keep it for a set period in case you are audited. We do not keep CPD records for you, we cannot provide evidence of your participation, and we cannot help you in an audit.

If you are unsure, ask your board or your association directly, before you rely on the activity.

Requirements differ by profession and by jurisdiction

Our readers include physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, other allied health professionals, students, strength and conditioning coaches, fitness professionals and researchers, in Australia and overseas. There is no single CPD rule that covers all of you.

  • Registered health professions in Australia are regulated under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, and each National Board sets its own CPD registration standard. Minimum hours, categories and record keeping periods differ between boards, and boards update them.
  • Physiotherapists. The Physiotherapy Board of Australia’s Continuing professional development registration standard requires practising physiotherapists to complete at least 20 hours of CPD per year, and to maintain a portfolio documenting all CPD undertaken together with a record of reflection on how it has affected practice. If you register part way through a registration period, the standard requires five hours for every three months of registration remaining. On record keeping, the Board’s CPD guidance says you should keep your CPD records and portfolio for five years, in case you are audited. Note the difference between those two things: the 20 hours is a requirement of the registration standard, and the five year retention period is expressed as something you should do rather than something you must do. Check the current standard on the Board’s website before you rely on either figure, because the Board reviews it.
  • Self regulated professions, including exercise physiology and strength and conditioning, set requirements through their professional bodies rather than through a registration board. Those requirements, and the way activities are categorised and weighted, are different again.
  • Overseas practitioners are subject to their own regulator entirely. Nothing in an Australian framework carries across automatically.
  • Students generally have no CPD obligation yet, and course or placement requirements are set by the education provider, not by us.

Check the framework that applies to you. Do not assume it matches a colleague’s.

No guarantee of professional outcomes

Engaging with our content does not, and cannot, guarantee any professional outcome.

Nothing on this site should be read as suggesting that using our content will result in registration, renewal of registration, a professional title or endorsement, or membership of any association. It will not deliver you a qualification, employment, promotion, competence in any technique, or a successful CPD audit either.

If this changes

If we obtain formal CPD accreditation or endorsement in future, we will say so on this page, name the accrediting body, and state precisely what is accredited and what is not. Until this page says otherwise, nothing on this site is accredited CPD.

Questions

If you are unsure how our content fits your CPD requirement, the fastest answer is your board or your association. If you have a question about the content itself, contact us at support@pivotalmotioneducation.physio. We will acknowledge you within 5 business days and answer within 20 business days.
