Who we are

This website, pivotalmotioneducation.physio (“Pivotal Motion Education”, “we”, “us”, “our”), is published by Pivotal Momentum Pty Ltd (ABN 84 640 834 235), in conjunction with Pivotal Motion Physiotherapy, of 240 Enoggera Road, Newmarket QLD 4051, Australia.

The physiotherapy clinic website at pivotalmotion.physio is operated by a separate company, Pivotal Motion Physiotherapy Pty Ltd (ABN 21 155 577 834). This policy covers only pivotalmotioneducation.physio. If you are a clinic patient, the clinic handles your health information separately and this policy does not apply to it.

We are committed to handling personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We apply that standard to this website as a matter of policy, and this page describes how.

What this policy covers

This site publishes educational articles for physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, allied health professionals, students, coaches, fitness professionals and researchers. You can read almost all of it without giving us anything. This policy explains the few points where we do collect personal information, and what you can ask us to do about it.

You can stay anonymous

You do not need to tell us who you are to read this website. We only ask for your details if you choose to contact us or to subscribe to our updates. If you would prefer to deal with us using a pseudonym or an unrelated email address, you can, although it may limit our ability to answer a question that depends on knowing who you are.

What we collect

Information you give us. If you use the contact form on this site, we collect the name, email address, topic, optional page link and message that you provide, so that we can respond to your enquiry. When the form is submitted we also record the date and time, the page it was sent from, your browser type and your IP address, which we use to prevent spam and abuse. If you email us directly, we hold that email and anything in it.

If you subscribe to our updates. The “Subscribe to our blogs” form at the foot of our pages collects your email address, and we record the date and time you subscribed. It is stored in our website’s database and emailed to us so that we can add you. We use it only to send you the articles and updates you asked for. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing support@pivotalmotioneducation.physio, and any update email we send will tell you how to unsubscribe.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we use analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics 4 sets cookies and similar identifiers. It may collect your IP address, approximate location derived from that address, device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site. We use this in aggregate to work out which articles are useful and how to improve them. We do not use it to identify you.

We share one Google Analytics measurement with the clinic website, pivotalmotion.physio, so that we can see how many readers go on to visit the clinic site. When you follow a link between the two sites, an identifier is carried in the link so that the visit is counted once rather than twice.

A Google Tag Manager container is also installed on the site. Tag Manager is a delivery mechanism for other scripts rather than an analytics tool in its own right. We use it to count clicks on affiliate links, which is reported to Google Analytics as a count of clicks per product, not as a record of who clicked.

Advertising. This site displays advertising through Google AdSense, which sets its own cookies and collects information as described under “Advertising and affiliate links” below.

Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses and requested pages, for security, troubleshooting and reliability.

Sensitive information, and a request

We do not seek sensitive information, and we do not ask for health information. This is an education website, not a clinical service.

Please do not send us identifiable patient information through the contact form or by email. If you want to ask about a clinical scenario, remove names, dates of birth, addresses and anything else that could identify the person. If you send us identifiable patient information anyway, we will delete it once we have dealt with your enquiry.

If you need physiotherapy treatment yourself, please contact a physiotherapy practice directly, or your own treating practitioner. In an emergency, call 000 within Australia, or your local emergency number.

How we use your information

  • To respond to enquiries you send through the contact form or by email.
  • To send updates to people who have subscribed to them.
  • To understand how the site is used, and to improve our articles and layout.
  • To display advertising, and to work out which affiliate links readers find useful.
  • To keep the site secure and to prevent spam and abuse.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not disclose it for another organisation’s direct marketing.

Advertising and affiliate links

Advertising. We use Google AdSense to display advertising on this website. Google AdSense and other third party vendors, including DoubleClick and Google Marketing Platform, use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites.

Through these cookies, Google and its partners may receive your IP address, the address of the page you are viewing, your device type, your browser type, and where applicable a unique advertising identifier and information about your prior browsing behaviour. Google uses this information to serve, measure and personalise advertising on this site and across the Google Display Network. Advertisements are chosen by Google, not by us.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time. Use Google My Ad Center at https://myadcenter.google.com, the third party vendor controls at https://www.aboutads.info, or private browsing and cookie blocking in your browser. A list of Google’s certified advertising partners, and the categories of data they may receive, is published at https://support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903.

Consent for visitors in Europe, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Where the EU GDPR, the UK GDPR or Swiss law applies, Google shows you a privacy message on our behalf, asking for your choice about advertising cookies. The message is provided through Google’s privacy and messaging tools, operated by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited, and it passes your choice to Google’s advertising services. You can change your choice at any time using the “Privacy preferences” link in the footer. Visitors from some US states may be shown a message that lets them opt out of the sale or sharing of their information for advertising. More detail is in our Cookie Policy.

Affiliate links and Amazon Associates. This website participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program that lets us earn fees by linking to Amazon, at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Pivotal Motion Education earns from qualifying purchases. Every post that contains affiliate links says so at the top of the post, and our Affiliate Disclosure page explains how it works.

At present our Amazon links point to Amazon Australia (amazon.com.au). When you click an affiliate link:

  • Your browser sends a request directly to Amazon containing your IP address, your browser user agent string, the address of the page you clicked from, and our affiliate tracking identifier.
  • Amazon sets a cookie on your device, typically valid for 24 hours, so that any purchase you then make can be attributed to our Associates account.
  • Amazon gives us aggregate, non identifying reports: numbers of clicks, orders and commission. We do not receive your name, email address, payment details or what you bought.

Once you arrive on Amazon, Amazon’s handling of your personal information is governed by its own privacy notice, at https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202056900. If you would rather not take part in this attribution, you can avoid clicking affiliate links, clear Amazon cookies after clicking, or browse Amazon in a private window.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the website, and only so that they can perform their function for us:

  • Google LLC, for Google Analytics 4, the Google Tag Manager container, Google AdSense and the privacy message shown to some visitors.
  • Amazon, but only when you click an affiliate link, as described above.
  • Our website host, Kinsta, which stores the site, the contact form messages and the subscriber list, and processes contact form messages so that they can be emailed to us.
  • Our email provider, which delivers and stores the enquiry emails we receive.
  • Our website developer, which maintains the site and may see contact form messages and subscriber details while doing so.

We may also disclose personal information where we are required or authorised to do so by law, or where it is reasonably necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers listed above store or process information outside Australia. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google AdSense involve disclosure to Google LLC in the United States, and may involve Google entities in other countries, including Ireland. Amazon may process information in the United States and other countries. Our host may also store data outside Australia.

Before disclosing personal information overseas we take steps that are reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, including relying on the provider’s contractual data protection terms.

International visitors

Our readers include learners outside Australia. If you are visiting from overseas, please note that this website is operated from Australia by an Australian business, and that information collected through it will generally be handled in Australia under Australian law.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, and the EU or UK GDPR applies to your visit, you may have additional rights under that law. Those rights can include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and a right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Contact us using the details below and we will deal with your request.

Storage, security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. The site is served over an encrypted connection.

We keep contact form messages, and the emails they generate, for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and our records. We then delete them, unless we need to keep them longer to deal with a dispute or to meet a legal obligation. We keep a subscriber’s email address until they unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics property. Server logs are kept by our host for its standard log period.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. Email in particular is not a secure channel, so please do not send us anything highly confidential through it.

Access, correction and your choices

You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong, incomplete or out of date. You may also ask us to delete a message you have sent us. We do not charge for a request, and we will respond within 30 calendar days. If we refuse access or refuse to correct information, we will tell you why in writing and explain how you can complain about that decision.

You can also control cookies yourself. You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and opt out of personalised advertising using the controls described under “Advertising” above. Blocking these cookies will not stop you from reading the site.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, or fallen short of the Australian Privacy Principles, please tell us first. Email support@pivotalmotioneducation.physio with “Privacy complaint” in the subject line, or write to us at the postal address below. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and give you a written response within 20 business days. If we need longer, we will tell you why and when to expect an answer.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au, by phone on 1300 363 992, or by post to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001. If you are outside Australia, you may also be able to complain to the privacy regulator where you live.

Children

This website is intended for a general adult audience, primarily health professionals and students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to other websites, including research databases, journals, professional associations and product pages. We do not control those sites and this policy does not apply to them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle your personal information, for example introducing a new advertising or tracking service, we will update this policy before that change goes live.
